Caedmon's Cross in the graveyard of St Mary's Church in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. The cross, which has numerous panels carved from hard sandstone and stands 20 feet high, was erected in 1898 to honour Caedmon, an Anglo-Saxon, who became a poet and also a monk. Finance for the cross, was raised by a public subscription fund which started in 1878. The memorial was designed by C C Hodges and was carved by Robert Beall.
