Description
A view of the coloured sand cliffs at Alum Bay, Isle of Wight, England. The main focus of this scene is the sand cliffs, these cliffs have a nearly vertical strata and the crumbling sand is present in over twenty different shades. This scene, situated at the most westerly point of the island was captured from the adjacent cliff on West High Down. The wider view includes the beach, the chair-lift, a tiny pier and pontoon for pleasure craft and the flights of steps leading from the cliff top to the beach. Then looking further north, Hurst Castle can be seen in its prominent position midway across the Solent and beyond that, a tiny line of white on the mainland, marks where the yachts are moored at Lymington.
